Monte Rosa Bike Paradise : the project
The website you are visiting is part of a larger project, and is a pilot activity in development.
It has a demonstration and pilot side, as a development model for further realisations.
On the one hand, it has a back-end use for the planning of bike routes and signposting, available to the technical offices and planning engineers.
On the other hand it already offers the possibility of use: it is a case of transition to digital as opposed to classic paper maps. The tool offers geolocalisation of the user, the presentation and tracing of routes, which can be downloaded, and the identification of landscape and historical points of interest.
In addition, it has a planning aspect, because it is proposed as a feasibility and planning tool for the development of further routes for the Ayas valley as a whole, to be supported by means of new projects, according to the orientations of the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation.
The Monte Rosa Bike Paradise project is in fact founded as part of the Next Generation You initiative of the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation.
It aims to improve the territorial accessibility with a view to environmental sustainability. Given the geomorphologic and urban-territorial nature, the valley's tourist accessibility requires a network of bicycle routes to be further developed as an element of attractiveness of the territory.
The tourism industry has experienced a real boom in the cycle tourism sector in recent years, especially in mountain areas. In 2022, 4% of the total tourist presences in Italy can be attributed to cycle tourism: around 31 million people (3rd National Report on Cycle Tourism in Italy / Isnart - OET Chambers of Commerce).
With a view to diversifying the tourism offer, Monte Rosa Bike Paradise is a response to the new needs of tourists towards experiences in organised framworks and accessible and sustainable esperience of the territorial, environmental and landscape heritage.
Other fundamental and transversal aspects of the Monte Rosa Bike Paradise project should also be emphasised: deseasonalisation, diversification, environmental and economic sustainability of communities and tourism activity.
